The Assistant

The Assistant is wroughtline's built-in AI helper. Tell it what you want in plain language, like adding an editor, scheduling a piece, or asking what's overdue, and it does the work in your account. It asks before changing anything unless you tell it not to. Find it under Assistant (/agent).

Start a conversation

  1. Go to Assistant and click New conversation.
  2. Type a request and click Send.
  3. Watch it work. Each request shows its status and every step (each tool it used and the result).

Example requests:

  • "Add company ThinkBrain, editor contact is Bob Bingo, bobthink@example.org."
  • "Add Jane Deer, jane@example.org, as an editor for Big Co. Schedule a 1200-word piece on fruit flies due the 20th of next month."
  • "How many assignments are overdue?"
  • "What's due next week for Big Co.?"
  • "Mark the fruit flies piece as submitted."

The Assistant knows today's date, so "next Friday" and "the 20th of next month" work.

Approving changes

Looking things up happens immediately. Anything that changes your data, such as creating a company, editor, or assignment, updating an assignment, or importing a CSV, pauses and shows a proposal like Create editor "Jane Deer":

Button What happens
Approve Makes this one change and continues
Reject Skips it. The Assistant is told you declined and can adjust or ask what to change
Approve all Approves this change and every later change in this conversation without asking

The conversation list shows whether Auto-approve is on. Once you click Approve all, it stays on for that conversation. To be asked again, start a New conversation.

When it asks you a question

If something it needs is missing, such as which editor or the due date, the Assistant asks instead of guessing. Type your answer in the reply box and send it. The request continues from there.

What it can and can't do

It can:

  • list, search, and look up your companies, editors, and assignments;
  • count assignments by status and list overdue or upcoming work;
  • create companies, editors, and assignments, and update assignments (title, status, word count, due date, notes);
  • import assignments from CSV text.

It can't (yet): work with invoices or payments, change Insights or Settings, delete anything, or see anyone else's data. The full list is in the Tools reference.

Good to know

  • It remembers the conversation. Within one conversation, the Assistant sees your earlier requests and its replies (the last ten), so "mark that one submitted" works. It doesn't keep the details of the steps it took, so it may look things up again. A New conversation starts fresh.
  • Big lists are capped. Lists return up to 50 items unless you ask for more (max 200). For totals, ask for counts ("how many…"), which are always complete.
  • If a request fails (for example, it runs out of steps on a very long task), the request shows failed with the reason. Anything you approved before that point was already saved.
  • Leaving the page doesn't stop a request. A request waiting for your approval or answer waits up to an hour. Come back to the conversation to continue. After that, or if wroughtline restarts (for example, during an update), the request shows failed and nothing pending is saved. Just send it again.
  • While a request is running you can't send another in the same conversation.
  • Changes the Assistant makes show up live in your other open pages.
