Invoices

An invoice bills one company for one or more pieces of work. You build it as a draft, issue it when it's ready, then record payments as they arrive. Find invoices under Invoices (/invoices).

Statuses

Status Meaning
Draft Still being put together. Editable, and has no invoice number yet.
Issued Sent and awaiting payment. Amounts are locked.
Paid Payments cover the total.
Void Cancelled but kept on record.

Each invoice shows its Total and remaining Balance, so a partly paid invoice is one that's Issued with a balance below its total.

Create an invoice

  1. Invoices → New invoice. Pick the Company, optionally a Due date and Notes, then click Create draft.
  2. On the draft, use Add from <company>'s assignments to add a line per assignment. Each line is pre-filled from the assignment's billing: words × rate, or the flat amount. You can edit the description, quantity, and unit price.
  3. Remove any line you don't want. While it's a draft you can also delete the whole invoice.

Issue it

Click Issue and confirm. wroughtline locks the line items and total, and assigns the next invoice number (numbers run in sequence across your invoices). After this you can't edit lines. Changing a rate later never changes an issued invoice.

Record a payment

On an issued invoice, fill in Amount, Paid on, and optionally Method and Reference, then click Record payment. When payments cover the total, the invoice becomes Paid. Overpaying is allowed, and it's still marked paid.

Bounced or recorded by mistake? Click Reverse next to the payment. It stays in the history, marked reversed, and no longer counts toward the paid amount. If that leaves the invoice short, it goes back to Issued.

Void it

Click Void on an issued or paid invoice to cancel it while keeping it on record. An invoice with payments can't be voided, so reverse its payments first. A draft you don't need can simply be Deleted.

Good to know

  • Money is tracked to the cent. Each line is rounded on its own, and the total is the sum of the lines.
  • A company with invoices can't be deleted.
  • Deleting an assignment doesn't remove its line from an invoice. The line just stops linking to it.
