Insights
Insights turns the work you've logged into answers: how fast you write, what you really
earn, how full your weeks are, and whether a new offer is worth taking. Everything is
calculated from your own assignments, so the more you log (especially Actual hours),
the sharper it gets. Find it under Insights (/insights).
Overview
| Metric | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Words / hour | Your writing speed across assignments with words and actual hours |
| Avg $/hr | What you actually earn per hour of work |
| Avg $/word | What you earn per word |
| Actual ÷ est. hours | How your estimates compare to reality (above 1 means work takes longer than you estimate) |
Below the metrics: By editor and By company tables (assignments, total fee, words, average $/hr) and Monthly revenue.
"Fee" means what each assignment is worth under its billing mode, whether or not it's been invoiced yet.
Capacity
Insights → Capacity (/insights/capacity) shows how committed each week is, as a
heatmap from four weeks back to about fifteen weeks ahead. Below it, Projected
availability lists upcoming weeks (Week of) with your Available hours, the hours
Committed to assignments, and what's Free.
- Available comes from your schedule in Settings: work days × hours per day × billable fraction. If you haven't set it, the page links you to Settings.
- Committed: each assignment's effort is spread evenly over its work window, from Start date to Due date. With no start date, wroughtline uses Due date minus Estimated days, or failing that, the due date's week.
- Effort is Estimated hours, or, if blank, word count ÷ your writing speed.
- Assignments without a due date can't be placed and don't count.
Should I take this?
Insights → Should I take this? (/insights/estimate) evaluates an offer before you
accept it. Enter Word count, Offered fee ($), Your available hours, and
Complexity, then click Evaluate. You get:
- Hours this needs: word count ÷ your writing speed, adjusted for complexity (light ×0.8, standard ×1.0, heavy ×1.4, complex ×1.8);
- Implied $/hr: the offered fee ÷ those hours, compared with your target hourly rate;
- Capacity ratio: hours needed ÷ hours available, with a verdict: Room to spare (under 0.9), At capacity (up to 1.05), or Overbooked (above that).
Good to know
- New accounts have little data, so benchmarks start rough. Logging Actual hours on finished work improves them fastest.
- Set your Target hourly rate in Settings so rates can be compared with it.
