Connect an AI client
You can let your own AI app, such as Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, or Claude Code), Cursor, or any app that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), read and work with your wroughtline data. It uses the same actions as the built-in Assistant, and only ever sees your data.
What you need
- The wroughtline MCP address:
https://app.wroughtline.com/mcp. - A wroughtline account you can log in to.
You never copy or paste a password or token. The app sends you to wroughtline to log in and approve access.
Connect
claude.ai / Claude Desktop: go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector,
give it a name (e.g. wroughtline), paste the /mcp address, and click Connect.
Claude Code: run
claude mcp add --transport http wroughtline https://app.wroughtline.com/mcp
then run /mcp inside Claude Code and choose wroughtline → Authenticate.
Other MCP apps: add a remote or custom MCP server ("Streamable HTTP") with the
/mcp address.
Then, for any app:
- A browser window opens on wroughtline. Log in if you aren't already.
- You see Authorize access: the app's name and what it's asking for, grouped by companies, editors, and assignments.
- Click Approve to connect, or Deny to refuse.
What you're granting
The Authorize access screen lists permissions ("scopes"). Most apps ask for read and
write.
| Scope | Lets the app |
|---|---|
read |
See all of your companies, editors, and assignments |
write |
Create companies, editors, and assignments, update assignments, and import CSVs |
companies:read / companies:write |
See / create companies only |
editors:read / editors:write |
See / create editors only |
assignments:read / assignments:write |
See / create, update, and import assignments only |
You approve the whole request or deny it. You can't pick and choose on the screen. An app
that asks for nothing specific gets read and write.
- Read-only access can never change anything. The app isn't even offered the write actions.
- With write access, the app doesn't ask wroughtline again for each change. Approving on this screen is the approval, unlike the built-in Assistant, which asks every time. Your AI app may still ask you before it acts. That depends on the app.
- No app can see invoices, payments, Insights, or Settings, or delete anything.
Using it
Ask your AI app in plain language, just like the Assistant. For example: "What's overdue in wroughtline?" or "Add an 800-word piece for Jane Deer due Friday."
To keep things fast, wroughtline starts each app with only a few actions (like counting
assignments by status and listing what's coming up). The app finds and turns on the rest as
needed with search_tools and load_tools, so you don't have to do anything. The full list
is in the Tools reference. Apps can also read the CSV import template
to build imports correctly.
Access renews itself in the background, so a connected app keeps working until you revoke it.
See or revoke connected apps
Open Settings → Connected clients (/users/settings). Each app you've approved is
listed with the access you granted and when it was Last used. Click Revoke to cut
it off immediately. To use it again, reconnect and approve again.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The app asks you to reconnect | Its access was revoked (by you, under Connected clients) or it lost its saved login. Reconnect and approve again. |
| "insufficient_scope" | The app was approved without the permission that action needs (e.g. read-only). Revoke it and reconnect with write. |
| The browser never opens, or you get "invalid redirect" | The app must support MCP's standard login flow (OAuth) and use an https or localhost callback. Check the app's MCP docs. |
| You don't see the app under Connected clients | It hasn't completed approval. Start the connection again. |
Technical details: the app finds wroughtline's login on its own, through the standard
OAuth discovery documents under /.well-known/, so the /mcp address is all you ever give it.
